Bill Overhauling Colorado’s Oil and Gas Regulation Signed (2)

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) signed a bill on April 16 giving local governments more say over regulation of oil and gas drilling in the state.

The legislation (S.B. 181) requires regulators to prioritize public health, safety and the environment in considering whether to sign off on oil and gas activity. Previously the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, the chief regulatory entity for the industry, was charged by law with fostering energy development.
