Biden’s Interior Deputy Nominee Approved by Senate Energy Panel

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee advanced the nomination Thursday of Tommy Beaudreau to be deputy Interior secretary by a bipartisan vote of 18-1.

Beaudreau, most recently an energy lawyer, is popular with both congressional Republicans and Democrats. He served at Interior during the Obama administration, coming to the department soon after the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Beaudreau became the first director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the agency formed during the post-Deepwater reorganization.

Committee Chairman Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said he “heartily” supports Beaudreau’s nomination. Ranking member John Barrasso (Wyo.) was similarly effusive.
