BGOV Closer Look: Amendments to H.R. 535, PFAS Package

The House will consider nearly two dozen amendments to H.R. 535, a broad package to regulate and mitigate pollution from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)—also known as “forever chemicals"—when it takes up the bill, as soon as Jan. 9.

The chemicals are nonstick agents used to make some cookware and are an ingredient in firefighting foam. PFAS exposure has been linked to adverse health conditions such as cancer, and the chemicals have been found in groundwater near facilities that use them, including military installations.
