Bankrupt ATP Owes $41.8 Million for Oil Pollution

ATP Oil & Gas Corp. agreed to court settlements totaling $41.85 million in penalties for unauthorized releases of oil and chemicals from a floating production platform in the Gulf of Mexico, the Justice Department said Nov. 19 (United States v. ATP Oil & Gas Corp., E.D. La., 2:13-cv-00262, settlement filed 11/19/15).

ATP is going through Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation proceedings and is no longer operating.

The Justice Department, in announcing two settlement agreements with ATP, said the company circumvented controls for chemical dispersants while discharging oily wastewater unlawfully from the platform, named the ATP Innovator.
