Amtrak Liable for Chicago Area Pollution, Paper Company Says (1)

Waste paper broker Continental Paper Grading Co. is seeking reimbursement of the costs of investigating environmental pollution it claims Amtrak caused, according to a complaint filed in federal district court in Chicago.

Amtrak has owned and operated a train servicing facility in Chicago since 1976. During that time, a “multitude” of spills, tank leaks, and other hazardous substance releases have occurred there, resulting in contaminated soil, surface water, and groundwater, Continental Paper said in its Thursday complaint, filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
