$1 Billion Solar Project near Joshua Tree Advances

A $1 billion solar power plant located less than 10 miles from Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California is moving forward after gaining approval from Interior Department officials.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management on Nov. 1 authorized EDF Reneweable Energy to build a 500 megawatt solar facility connected to a 6.7-mile long transmission line in Riverside County. The project is expected to produce enough power for 130,000 homes and employ 1,000 workers at its peak, including construction staff of 550 people.
