Oklahoma Coal Ash Plan More Rigorous Than EPA’s, Supporters Say

Oklahoma’s stewardship of the nation’s first state coal ash permit program has the advantage of local expertise and will result in stronger enforcement efforts, industry and state officials told Bloomberg Environment.

Environmental law firm Earthjustice disagreed, saying it would challenge the transfer of authority to the state.

But Oklahoma’s largest electric utility told Bloomberg Environment the state program is stronger than the federal one.
