UnitedHealth Subsidiary Gets Boost in Mental Health Care Appeal

UnitedHealth Group Inc. subsidiary United Behavioral Health received support from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and health industry trade groups in its Ninth Circuit appeal of a decision rejecting the way the insurer covers mental health treatments.

Courts shouldn’t be in the business of condemning “evidence-based clinical guidelines” that a health insurer has chosen to apply under its own contracts, the Association for Behavioral Health and Wellness said Wednesday in an amicus brief filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
