United Airlines Accused of Mishandling Voluntary Buyout Programs

A former United Airlines Inc. flight attendant filed a proposed class action in Illinois federal court, accusing the airline of mishandling recent voluntary buyout programs and failing to pay retiring employees their full benefits.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, accuses United of reneging on a promise made in a 2017 voluntary separation program. According to the flight attendant, United promised departing employees they would be eligible for any additional benefits available under subsequent buy out programs established within three years of their retirement.
