Puerto Rico Catholic School Staff: Seize Assets for Pensions

Puerto Rico Catholic school teachers are asking the U.S. Supreme Court not to pause a local court order to seize $4.7 million in assets from the island’s Catholic Church to cover their pension payments.

The teachers—whose pension benefits were suspended two years ago when the church announced the plan’s termination—are suffering damages as their pensions are their sole source of sustenance, the teachers said in their opposition filed June 19.
