Pension Triage Dominates Tax Writers’ Attention on the Hill

Congressional tax writers are using the few days they have before the next possible government shutdown to reassure millions of retirees that salvaging troubled pension plans remains on their collective radar.

Most lawmakers had to put personal priorities on hold while President Donald Trump and Democratic leaders waged a month-long battle over funding for a polarizing border wall. While others work to hash out a bipartisan compromise on the security front ahead of a Feb. 15 deadline, tax leaders in both chambers are resuming efforts to secure a better future for retirees.
