Nevada will be among the first states in the U.S. to offer a public health insurance option under a law Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) signed Wednesday.
The measure (S.B. 420) requires the state health department to operate a public option program that allows residents to purchase plans on and off the state exchange by 2026. Insurance companies that want to bid as Medicaid providers in the state also would have to offer a public option plan for the individual market.
