Honeywell Wins Appeal of Retiree Health Benefits Order

Honeywell International Inc. convinced a federal appeals court to undo an order forcing the company to continue providing health benefits for about 50 retirees at its Boyne City, Mich., plant.

The retirees who challenged Honeywell’s proposed benefit cuts didn’t show that their collective bargaining agreement entitled them to benefits beyond the agreement’s expiration date, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled March 8. The decision invalidates a preliminary injunction forcing Honeywell to continue paying the benefits while the legal dispute was pending.
