Honeywell Ordered to Continue Retirees’ Health Benefits

Honeywell International Inc. must continue providing health insurance to retirees at its Boyne City, Mich., plant, despite previously announcing that coverage would terminate at the end of the year (Cooper v. Honeywell Int’l, Inc., W.D. Mich., No. 1:16-cv-00471-JTN-ESC, 12/14/16).

A federal judge on Dec. 14 entered a preliminary injunction forcing Honeywell to continue health coverage for 32 Michagan retirees while their lawsuit against the company proceeds. The retirees claim that Honeywell’s planned benefit cuts violate bargaining agreements that entitle them to company-provided health insurance until they reach age 65.
