Health Insurance Credits Advance in U.S. House Tax Committee

The House Ways and Means Committee approved legislation modifying the Affordable Care Act to make health insurance cheaper for millions of Americans.

The panel voted 24-19 to advance the measure on Wednesday.

The changes will be folded into Democrats’ sweeping tax and social spending package. Democrats are using that legislation, which could total as much as $3.5 trillion, to advance several proposals to expand health coverage to more people, including by broadening access to Medicaid. The Ways and Means panel shares jurisdiction for health matters with the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
