George Washington Asks D.C. Circuit to Ax Retirement Plan Suit

A proposed class action targeting George Washington University’s retirement plans is blocked by an individual worker’s separation agreement, the school told the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Monday.

Melissa Stanley left her job at George Washington in 2016, signing a separation agreement releasing “any and all claims” under any federal statute, the school said in its brief. Her lawsuit alleging violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act is “clearly within the scope of the release” and therefore blocked, the school said.
