GE Wants Judge-Led Arbitration of $200 Million Pension Dispute

General Electric Co.'s $200 million dispute with a multiemployer pension fund should be resolved through arbitration with one of three former federal judges, the company told the District of Kansas.

GE on Feb. 7 proposed three potential arbitrators to hear its dispute with the Boilermaker-Blacksmith National Pension Trust. GE asked the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas to “act expeditiously” in handling the request, noting that it’s required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act to pay the pension fund “interim payments” of $4.5 million per month until the disagreement is resolved.
