Father-in-Law Loses Round Over Halting $700,000 Insurance Check

A lawsuit over more than $700,000 in life insurance proceeds should be resolved in favor of an insured man’s common-law husband, rather than his father, a federal magistrate judge in Dallas ruled Thursday.

Rodney Ford is entitled to enforce the $726,299 check that his father-in-law sent to him after Ford’s husband died in 2016, Magistrate Judge David L. Horan of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of of Texas said in a report and recommendation.
