Ex-Best Buy Worker Sues Over Health Coverage Notices (1)

Best Buy Co. is accused of sending confusing and legally deficient health insurance notices in an apparent effort to cut costs and keep former workers off its health plan, according to a proposed class action filed Wednesday in the Middle District of Florida.

The lawsuit, filed by former Best Buy employee Daniel Pruitt, accuses the company of failing to satisfy the notice requirements of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, the federal law that allows employees to remain covered by their former employer’s health plan for a limited time after leaving their jobs or after certain other events.
