Electrical Benefit Funds Lack Union-Backed Trustees, Suit Says

An electrical contracting industry worker filed a proposed class action in federal court on Long Island against his union, an employer association, and various benefit funds, claiming the funds use an illegal structure with only management-side trustees.

The welfare, annuity, pension, and apprenticeship funds covering members of the United Service Workers Union, IUJAT, Local 363 are run entirely by employer-side trustees appointed by the Building Industry Electrical Contractors Association, Martin Cudjoe said Monday in a new complaint.
