Columbia Trustees Want Retirement Plan Suit Over Without Trial

The trustees of Columbia University continued defending their retirement plans from a lawsuit alleging mismanagement, telling a federal judge in the Southern District of New York that no trial is needed to determine that the plans were in line with those of peer schools.

The trustees object to a federal magistrate judge’s report recommending that the lawsuit’s remaining claims proceed toward trial. The trustees urged Judge George B. Daniels to overrule the magistrate report and instead follow recent decisions by the Southern District of New York rejecting similar claims against New York University and Cornell University.
