Cigna Can’t Shake Would-Be Class Action Over Drug Pricing

Cigna Corp. suffered a big setback in a proposed class action accusing it of overcharging for prescription drugs when a federal judge refused to dismiss most of a 10-count complaint against the insurer.

The proposed class of “thousands” of people in health plans insured and administered by Cigna is moving forward with most of their claims under federal employee benefits and racketeering law, according to a March 12 decision by a federal judge in Connecticut. The judge trimmed only a few claims, including one accusing Cigna of discriminating against people with specific health conditions.
