Calif. Official Asks Judge to Toss State Retirement Program Suit

The tax group suing California over its savings program for employees who don’t have an employer-provided retirement benefit lacks standing to bring the case, the state attorney general said, asking the judge to dismiss the complaint.

The Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association and two of its employees can’t bring their claims against the CalSavers program because it hasn’t started offering the benefits yet, Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in the motion, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California July 25.
