Anheuser-Busch Latest Company Sued Over Outdated Pension Tables

Anheuser-Busch Cos. shortchanges certain workers’ retirement benefits by using 50-year-old data on life expectancies to calculate their pensions, according to a proposed class action filed May 6.

The company bases pension calculations on actuarial data from the 1960s, which doesn’t take into account improvements in lifespan tied to medical advances and lifestyle changes, the lawsuit claims. This causes workers who elect certain forms of pension benefits to receive lower monthly payments than they would receive if the company relied on up-to-date figures, according to the lawsuit.
