American Airlines Must Face Pay Claims by Reservist Pilots

American Airlines Inc. must face claims that it violates federal law by not paying pilots for the time they take off to perform their duties in the military reserves, a federal district court said June 18.

Pilot James Scanlan, who is also a Major General in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, claimed that American pays other employees for time off like jury duty and sick and union leave, and also doesn’t deduct that time from computation of an annual profit sharing payment.
