Senate Republicans are readying an amendment that would block Democrats from easing the current $10,000 federal deduction cap on state and local tax payments.

Democrats want to raise the SALT cap, established in the Republican-led 2017 tax law, as part of the tax-and-spend package they aim to advance using the budget reconciliation process.
