The Michigan Department of Treasury Dec. 14 announced that recently enacted laws exempt sales of feminine hygiene products from sales and use taxes. The laws will take effect on Feb. 3, 2022. The announcement includes: 1) feminine hygiene products mean tampons, panty liners, menstrual cups, sanitary napkins, and other similar tangible personal property designed for feminine hygiene in connection with the human menstrual cycle; 2) “similar tangible personal property” excludes grooming, hygiene, and feminine cleansing products; and 3) grooming and hygiene products, such as feminine sprays, powders, creams, and ointments, remain taxable unless exempt as “over-the-counter drugs.” [Mich.
