Georgia to Study Benefits of Tax Breaks While Adding New Ones

Georgia’s biggest special interest tax breaks are poised for scrutiny.

A bill (S.B. 6) signed by Gov. Brian Kemp (R)Tuesday gives chairs of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee authority to commission five studies each of the return on investment from the state’s tax incentive programs.

The measure also adds to the list of such programs, creating tax credits for jobs tied to pharmaceutical, medicine, and medical device manufacturing, railroads, concrete equipment, yacht repair. It includes tax breaks for Lockheed Martin to better compete for aerospace defense contracts....
