FEMA Notice: Louisiana Hurricane Zeta Disaster Declaration (IRC §165)

Major disaster declared for parts of Louisiana, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced January 12. FEMA stated that the president has declared that a major disaster exists in Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and Terrebonne parishes due to Hurricane Zeta that took place from October 26-29, 2020. The major disaster declaration is considered a federally declared disaster allowing taxpayers residing in the affected areas to elect under tax code Section 165(i) to claim casualty losses on their 2019 or 2020 tax returns.
