FEMA Notice: Arizona Severe Storms Major Disaster Declaration (IRC §165)

Major disaster declared for parts of Arizona, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced late September 13. FEMA stated that the president has declared that a major disaster exists in Apache, Coconino and Navajo counties due to severe storms that took place from July 22-24, 2021. The major disaster declaration is considered a federally declared disaster allowing taxpayers residing in the affected areas to elect under tax code Section 165(i) to claim casualty losses on their 2020 or 2021 tax returns.
