Europe’s Top Court Allows Tax Data Demand for Unnamed Investors

Member states can request information during tax investigations about unidentified shareholders and beneficial owners, the European Court of Justice held Thursday.

To comply with European information-sharing Directive No. 2011/ 16, the requests must provide the most specific and detailed information possible about the group, and must explain the group’s tax obligations, the facts underlying the request, and the reason the tax authority suspects a violation, the EU’s top court held.
