‘Doubling Down’ on Big Data Upgrades IRS Fraud Investigations

The IRS is “doubling down” on data analysis efforts to guide its criminal investigations as dwindling resources leave the agency short on manpower, an agency official said.

“We’re running thin on people and rich on data—so what we’ve been working on is how do we make the most use of our people,” said Todd Egaas, director of technology operations for the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (CI) division.
