Digital Ad Tax Bill Gets Companion Measure in Maryland Assembly

Maryland Democrat Alonzo Washington on Thursday introduced a General Assembly bill as a companion to Senate legislation that would impose a digital advertising revenue tax on companies like Google and Facebook that target Marylanders with online ads.

  • If enacted, the measure (HB0695) would impose a 2.5% tax on the pertinent Maryland revenue of companies with global revenue of between $100 million and $1 billion; companies with larger global revenue would pay more, up to 10% of gross revenue on more than $15 billion.
  • The bill was cross-filed Thursday with the original state Senate bill (SB0002)
