Darden Restaurants Seek Guidance on Food Donation Tax Break

The owner of Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse wants the IRS to keep working on guidance that could provide bigger tax benefits for donations of food and other inventory.

If the agency doesn’t finish the guidance by the end of June—which is also the end of the year-long term covered by the IRS’s list of top guidance priorities—officials should include it in the next iteration of the list, wrote Angela Simmons, senior vice president of corporate tax at Darden Restaurants Inc., in a letter to the IRS released this week under the Freedom of Information Act.
