Daines Takes Aim at Land Deals in Infrastructure Amendment

A Senate Republican is hoping to attach a provision reining in tax-advantaged land deals to the bipartisan infrastructure package.

Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) filed an amendment Tuesday to curb transactions known as syndicated easements, his office said. These transactions—targeted by the IRS and Congress for several years—involve deals where promoters solicit multiple partners to buy interest in a property and then donate the development rights to generate a tax deduction.
