Connecticut Makes Changes to Unclaimed Property Law

The Connecticut Governor signed a law that includes: 1) defining an “apparent owner” for purposes of the unclaimed property law to include an agent or other representative of the apparent owner; 2) defining “indicated an interest” for purposes of the unclaimed property law to include various actions showing the apparent owner is aware of the property; and 3) removing a requirement that certain unclaimed property valued at less than $50 be automatically distributed to an individual if the Treasurer has determined the individual is the sole owner of the property, and determined the current address for the individual.
