Biden’s Racial Equity Directive Opens Door for IRS Data Changes

President Joe Biden’s executive order aimed at promoting racial equity offers an opening for the IRS to begin collecting race-based tax data, though it is unclear if the administration will need Congress to go along.

Biden signed an executive order yesterday that tasks a working group of government leaders with identifying inadequacies in existing federal data collection programs and recommending ways for agencies to expand and refine their data to better measure equity and diversity.
