Intuit $40 Million Proposed Settlement Rejected as Unfair (2)

A $40 million proposed settlement between Intuit Inc. and taxpayers who faced company charges despite being eligible for free tax return filing was rejected for not being fair and adequate for the involved taxpayers.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit argued that Intuit got them to use its TurboTax software by promising they could file for free, only to later charge them. They have said they represent around 19 million taxpayers who paid a fee between the beginning of 2015 and Nov. 20, 2020, despite being eligible for the TurboTax free filing program.
