State of Wayfair: Nevada’s Marketplace Law Kicks Off Oct. 1

Nevada is sewing up a gap in its Wayfair-inspired tax system with a law requiring marketplace facilitators to collect sales and use taxes on behalf of sellers using their platforms beginning Oct. 1.

The state’s tax department already requires remote sellers to collect taxes once they exceed $100,000 in retail sales or 200 transactions in Nevada each year. A new law signed June 12 by Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) outlines how those provisions apply to marketplace facilitators such as Amazon.com Inc., eBay Inc., and Etsy Inc.
