San Francisco Gross Receipts Tax Vote Gets Appeals Court Nod

A California appeals court Tuesday upheld a San Francisco voter-approved initiative to impose a gross receipts tax on high-revenue companies.

The 3-0 decision tests a California Supreme Court ruling that only a simple majority vote is required for a citizen initiative. The court agreed with San Francisco and the trial court, rejecting appeals from the California Business Roundtable, California Business Properties Association, and Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
