Private Solar Arrays on Florida Air Force Base Deemed Taxable

A private solar energy facility on an Air Force base in Florida needs to pay ad valorem taxes on its solar panels, a Florida appeals court ruled.

A review of Florida statutes and of the deed for the 240 acres of Eglin Air Force Base leased by Gulf Coast Solar 1, LLC, showed that because the rented property is being used by a private party, taxation is in order, Judge Thomas D. Winokur wrote in the July 19 decision.
