Online Sales Tax Data Bill Heads to California Governor’s Desk

A bill on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk would help California quantify how tax-sharing agreements between cities and online retailers are concentrating sales tax revenue in a few cities at the expense of others.

Senators gave the bill (S.B. 792) a final vote of 31-4 to accept amendments made in the Assembly and sent it to the governor on the last day of the 2021 session Friday, two hours after it passed the Assembly.
