N.J. Governor Nixes Travel Facilitator Tax Bill (Correct)

Gov. Phil Murphy on Tuesday pocket vetoed a bill that would have allowed New Jersey to begin collecting sales taxes from travel marketplace facilitators and travel agencies.

The bill (S3715/A5804) would have marked the state’s latest effort to assert its authority to collect taxes following the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark 2018 ruling in South Dakota v. Wayfair, which permitted states to impose tax collection duties on remote retailers based on their economic activity rather than their physical presence.
