Minor League Baseball Players Win Wage Class Certification

Minor league baseball players won class certification in their suit seeking to require Major League Baseball to pay minimum wages and overtime, after a federal trial court found the league may be liable as a joint employer.

But lead plaintiff Cody Sedlock lacks standing to pursue claims against the 22 named individual franchises because he hasn’t played for any of the named clubs, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said.

Sedlock plays for the Bowie Baysox, a Double-A minor league team affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles.
