Massachusetts Scraps Overhaul of Sales Tax Filing Rules

Massachusetts is withdrawing a sales tax filing proposal that would have been one of a kind, requiring retailers to report e-commerce and in-store transactions separately.

In a bulletin Wednesday, the state Department of Revenue said it was scrapping protocols for 2022 that would have required the separate reporting. It said “online sales versus in-store sales can be challenging as vendors make this distinction differently and the information may not be available or accurate at the time the return is filed.”
