California Lawmakers Send Incomplete Budget Plan to Governor

California lawmakers sent an incomplete $143 billion budget plan to Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday that spends more than the governor want, but includes $9.2 billion in agreed-upon corporate tax increases over three years.

Legislative leaders are still negotiating with the Democratic governor to close the difference between his $133 billion plan and theirs. But they fulfilled their duty to enact a budget bill with the necessary appropriations by June 15 while they continue negotiating.
