California Court Speeds Decision on Presidential Tax Returns Law

California’s Supreme Court won’t halt immediate enforcement of a law requiring presidential candidates to release five years of tax returns, but will speed up its decision in a challenge brought by the California Republican Party.

The court denied the CRP’s request to block the law immediately, or by Nov. 4. Instead, the seven justices said they are expediting the case and set a Sept. 16 deadline for briefing.
