U.S. Should Ease Process for Renouncing Citizenship, EU Says

The U.S. should make it easier for “accidental Americans” to renounce their citizenship, the European Union said in a letter to the Treasury Department.

As a result of new reporting requirements, many EU residents have realized they qualify as U.S. persons because they were either born in the U.S. or born abroad to a U.S. parent.
