U.K. Sets Out Post-Brexit Border Plan in 206-Page Document

Exports to the European Union from the U.K. will face customs controls from Jan 1. 2021, according to a government plan seen by Bloomberg News.

  • From January, hauliers exporting to the EU will need explicit permission from the tax authorities to proceed to ports
  • From July, hauliers will use a new IT system to obtain a reference number proving they can take their goods to the EU. Without a valid reference number, they will be stopped
