Thailand wants to boost taxes for tourists entering the country—an idea supported by some in the tourist industry, even as it faces a severe downturn due to the coronavirus pandemic.
International visitors would be required to pay a 300 baht ($10) tourist tax on arrival, according to an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport.
“As for now we are waiting for cabinet approval for the 300 baht tourism tax and will announce this afterward,” the ministry said in an email. The tax would become law upon approval.
